A trip to Rodos and Simi Islands
(19-25 Sept 2007)

Day 2 - A Daily Trip to the Nearby Simi island

After our breakfast at the hotel we went down to the harbour to find our boat. Our ship was a catamaran but it was not as quick as the one we took the day before from Marmaris to Rodos island. However the weather was lovely and we stayed on the upper deck al the way.

Our first stop was at the Panormitisi monastery on the southern end of Simi island. That was situated in a beautiful gulf. There was not much of a village around just a few houses, a bakery, a few markets, and the monastery complex itself.

After the one our stop and visit to Panormitis Monastery, the ship took off for Simi island's center village Simi that is situated on the northern end on the island and is very close to Datca village of Turkey. Simi is a very graphical village and it attracts many tourist throughout the year. The lovely colors of the houses were wonderful. We strolled thru the streets bought some souvenirs, and then we sat on a kafenion (traditional coffee house) to drink some retsina wine. Retsina is a white wine stored on wooden barrels with resin to obtain the beautiful smell and taste of the resin.

Our return was directly to Rodos and we stayed inside the ship to get some rest. On our arrival to Rodos city we took some photos of the city while our ship was entering the harbour.
